This three-hour retreat provides faculty the opportunity to focus on their writing projects while gaining inspiration and support from fellow academic authors. With guidance from Dannelle Stevens, OAI's Faculty in Residence for Academic Writing, participants will begin by setting realistic goals and warm up with a focused freewrite. Following that, Dannelle will facilitate group discussion, small group breakouts, and three dedicated writing sessions.

 

Participants will:

Learn practical, focused writing strategies to enhance your writing practice

Make meaningful progress on your writing project during three focused writing sessions

Benefit from the fellowship and support of a community of like-minded scholars

This session will begin with an overview of Breakout Rooms and a walkthrough of how to use them. The second part of the session will be a hands on opportunity to explore different configurations of breakout rooms and get some practice using them.   Tips for joining this session:   - Please update your client to version 5.3 available here   - You are welcome to join any way you like, however, some features of Breakout Rooms are limited for ChromeOS and the website version of Zoom; if you're able to join a different way you will get a better experience.     This workshop will be recorded. Writing projects could include grant proposals, promotion and tenure narratives, academic articles, book chapters, presentations, or other pieces geared toward professional publication. We'll meet remotely this Fall to discuss the future of education as we read chapters from Academia Next: The Futures of Higher Education. Each participant will receive a physical copy of the book in the mail.   "How will current trends transform American higher education over the course of the next twenty years? The outlook for the future of colleges and universities is uncertain. Financial stresses, changing student populations, and rapidly developing technologies all pose significant challenges to the nation's colleges and universities.
