Requirements for a Bachelor's Degree
A minimum of 180 credits are needed to graduate, with at least 62 upper division credits* (300/400 level courses). Forty-five (45) of the final 75 credits* must be taken at PSU.
*As of July 2021, PSU’s Faculty Senate approved a reduction in the number of upper-division credits required for graduation changing the requirement from 72 credits to 62 credits and residence credits from 45 of the final 60 to 45 of the final 75. These changes are in effect immediately, regardless of which catalog requirements you are using.
You must complete 2 college-level composition courses or their approved equivalents for your bachelor's degree requirements.
Second Language Admission Requirement
If you graduated from an Oregon high school in 1997 or after, you must meet the Second Language Proficiency admission requirement prior to graduation.
PSU does not require a specific number of electives for graduation. You may, however, need to take elective courses in addition to the requirements described above in order to complete the 180 total credits and/or 72 upper division credits required. The number of electives needed will vary depending on your major. Consider filling your electives with a second major or minor or by doing an internship.
You must have a minimum of 2.0 cumulative grade point average (G.P.A) in all PSU coursework at the completion of your degree. You also need at least a 2.0 in the courses in your major. Some majors require higher than a 2.0 in the major courses, and some require that you maintain a minimum G.P.A. in order to avoid a probationary status in the department.
Catalog Year Eligibility
Requirements occasionally change, especially in the major, and you may have the option to follow different requirements. You may select the requirements in any catalog going back to the first year you attended an accredited college in the U.S., as long as you graduate within seven years of that year (e.g., the 2020-2021 bulletin expires in Summer 2027). Talk with your advisor about which catalog requirements might benefit you.
