We invite you to help support, strengthen, and sustain Asia related programming at Portland State University.
Your gift helps fund scholarship awards for students, and brings informative speakers, performing artists, and Asia related films and exhibits to Portland.
Gifts of cash, check, or credit card have an immediate impact on the Institute for Asian Studies and the programs we offer. Make checks payable to the PSU Foundation. Gifts can also be made online with a credit card through the PSU Foundations secure website's like (click here).
PSU Faculty & Staff can contribute via monthly payroll deduction. Learn more about the PSU Faculty/Staff Giving Campaign. Be sure to specify on the form which IAS Program fund you wish to support. For more information, contact the Institute for Asian Studies Office, tel. 503-725-8576.
The full-market value of gifts of appreciated securities is tax deductible. In most cases, appreciation in the value of the security benefits the Institute for Asian Studies and is not taxable to the donor.
Many employers will match employees’ gifts to the PSU Institute for Asian Studies. Employees of eligible companies should request a matching gift form from their employer and send it completed and signed with their gift; the impact of the gift may be doubled or possibly tripled. Some companies also match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.
For further information about making a planned gift or bequest to Portland State, please contact Institute for Asian Studies, 503.725.8576 or visit the Portland State University Planned Giving pages for more information.
Real property, either in its entirety or in part, can be deeded to The PSU Foundation to benefit the Institute for Asian Studies. It is possible to arrange a sizable tax deduction by deeding a home to the Institute for Asian Studies, while continuing to occupy the property for life.
In writing a will or living trust, donors can specify that they would like their estate to benefit the Portland State Institute for Asian Studies.
Charitable Gift Annuity
Donors may transfer money, securities, or real estate in trust to the Institute for Asian Studies and receive income for themselves or another, for life. Donors may receive immediate tax benefits, and ultimately the Institute for Asian Studies receives the trust property.
Qualified Retirement Plans
Naming The PSU Foundation as a beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan (IRA, KEOGH, 401(k) or 403(b)) may be particularly advantageous to donors; doing so may result in more assets being passed on to heirs than if the donor makes a bequest from other funds in the estate.
Gift of Materials
The Portland State Institute for Asian Studies welcomes pre-arranged gifts of material that support the instructional and research programs of the University. If you would like to make a donation of materials to the Institute for Asian Studies or to Portland State University, we require that donors discuss their donations with the Institute for Asian Studies Programs Administrator before delivering them to our office. We may ask you to prepare a detailed list as part of this process.
Please contact the Institute's Programs Administrator and kindly provide a description and information about your desired in-kind contribution and/or donation of materials.
The PSU Institute for Asian Studies encourages donors to discuss prospective donations and appraisals with their attorneys or tax specialists prior to making their donations. Donors also are encouraged to consult the Web site of the Internal Revenue Service (http://www.irs.gov) for more information.
Please note: The PSU Institute for Asian Studies is able to process donor IRS Tax Form 8283 only in special, pre-approved circumstances.
Acknowledgement of Gifts
If a gift of material is accepted by the PSU Institute for Asian Studies, the donor will receive a receipt at the time of donation. This receipt serves as a proof of your charitable donation. The receipt does not include any statement of value and we encourage you to work with your tax expert for proper valuation.
