DRC Workshops

The DRC is currently offering three workshops via Zoom. You can read the descriptions for each workshop below the calendar.

  • If you would like to reserve a seat in one of the workshops and receive reminders for the workshop, please fill out the sign-up form associated with the workshop.
  • If your schedule varies and you’re not sure if you’ll be able to attend a specific workshop, you are welcome to drop into any of the workshops without signing up.
  • There is a recorded version of each workshop that you can watch (see the workshop descriptions for the links).

Below is a calendar with the DRC Workshop schedule. You can copy the workshop directly into your Google Calendar by clicking on the event and selecting “add to my calendar”. You will find the Zoom link to the workshop in the event details. If you don't see a scheduled workshop time when you're available, please reach out to schedule a one-on-one appointment to go over the workshop material:

    Note Taking Skills Workshop

This workshop will help you identify your learning strengths, learn how to use those strengths to become an active listener in class, and format your notes so that they work for you as a learner. After attending this workshop, you will be more confident about note taking, know how to identify key information, and have the tools to use your notes effectively. You can visit the Note Taking Skills webpage for a self-paced version of the workshop. A video version of the full workshop is also available on this page.

If you prefer to work individually with an Access Counselor & Consultant or intern, please fill out our brief form and we will follow up with you quickly.

Adaptive Technology for Note Taking & Organization Workshop

There are many ways to take notes besides using a pencil and a piece of paper. Come to this workshop to learn about computer software, mobile applications, and smart pens that allow you to audio record and/or take electronic notes! We will also discuss online file organization and task management tools.

If you would prefer, you can choose to watch a recorded version of our Adaptive Technology for Note Taking & Organization Workshop instead of attending a scheduled workshop time. You can also watch this video for a refresher on the information that is covered in the workshop!

Adaptive Technology for Reading and Writing Workshop

This workshop introduces you to some options to make it easier to read your course materials and write papers. We talk about text-to-speech computer software and mobile applications that read PDFs and other electronic files out loud to you that also allow you to highlight and take notes on them. We demonstrate mind mapping tools that allow you to structure ideas and information in a visual way, and also discuss speech recognition tools that convert spoken words into typed text.

Please note that the virtual workshops are specific to Mac or Windows users, so be sure to choose the one that fits your needs best. If you don't use either, or if you use both, please come to whichever works best for you! If you would prefer, you can choose to watch a recorded version of this workshop on our Adaptive Technology for Reading & Writing page instead of attending a scheduled workshop time. You can also read our Kurzweil Guide to learn about how to navigate the most popular text-to-speech tool that is available through the DRC.
