Workshops & Drop-In Groups
SHAC Counseling Services offers a variety of workshops and support groups
Due to the open and online nature of this space, the support groups and workshops provided are not private or confidential, though participants are encouraged to be respectful and mindful of each other’s privacy. Participants can also change your name in zoom if they wish to keep their name private, though they will need to utilize their @pdx account to access the zoom meeting. Please reach out to your group leaders if you have accessibility needs and we will work to support you.
Although facilitators are mental health and health professionals, this support group does not constitute treatment or therapy. We also encourage those needing additional support to seek out confidential medical and/or mental health consultation services through PSU Student Health and Counseling Services (503)725-2800; For crisis support, you can also contact the Multnomah County Crisis Line at 503-988-4888.
Workshops and group therapy may be facilitated by PSU students in the Master's in Social Work or Master's in Counseling programs.
Summer Term Workshops & Groups
CRC+ SHAC Students of Color Support Group
Join Cultural Resource Centers and Student Health and Counseling Services for a drop-in Students of Color support group. In this drop-in support group, participants will explore individual experiences, learn self-care strategies, and find solidarity, connection, and community within a safe and supportive environment. This group will include break-out sessions, and interactive conversations based on student interests and needs.
Topics may include, but are not limited to academic concerns, first-generation experiences, family issues, racism/microaggressions, intersectionality, imposter syndrome, as well as the impact of national/local events on emotional health.
The group will be facilitated by Yolonda Salguiero, Native American Student & Community Center Program Senior Program Coordinator and Amanda Ramirez, Psychologist at Student Health and Counseling Services.

To Love What is Mortal: A Workshop for Grief & Mourning
Validate your grief. Map your mourning. This 3-session psychoeducational workshop aims to promote connection and reassurance by considering models of bereavement and how they can help inform and shape the narratives of our loss.

Come to one of our online single session wellness workshops! Learn concrete skills for effectively managing your emotions and anxiety, decreasing procrastination, tackling stress, and getting a good nights’ sleep. These solid strategies will benefit you throughout your life, but are especially important now during the pandemic.
You can come to any or all of the workshops (only exception is that in order to attend Part II of the neuroscience-based one, you had to have attended Part I previously).

DRC + SHAC Support Group
Join the Disability Resource Center and Counseling Services for a weekly drop-in support group. This is a space for students to connect, build community, and explore themes in discussion with one another. There is no commitment to attend weekly; feel free to join us whenever you’d like.
