SLS Internship Description

Our interns work closely with attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, and other staff in all aspects of a case. This may include sitting in on intakes, drafting correspondence, conducting research, and attending hearings. Interns are also expected to assist and participate in SLS outreach events and trainings. Interns will get real-world experience in various areas of law and learn how to work in a professional setting.

Intern Expectations

  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information in a trustworthy and professional manner
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Provide outstanding client service
  • Develop and maintain consistent work hours
  • Perform tasks that they are given to the best of their capabilities

Minimum Requirements

  • Good academic standing and ability to work independently
  • Two professional, personal, or academic references
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills

Per PSU policy, SLS interns must pass a background check.

SLS Internship FAQ

Q: How many hours a week is the SLS Internship?

A: 12-20 hours per week as arranged. This is dependant on the requirements of the academic department through which you seek credit. For more information about seeking credit for internships, please speak to your major department or academic advisor.

Q: Is this internship paid? Can I receive academic credit?

A: This is not a paid internship. You may be able to seek college credits for completing this internship. For more information about seeking credit for internships, please speak to your department or academic advisor.

Q: During which terms is this internship offered? 

A: The SLS internship is offered every term, including summer. 

Q: When can I apply for next term’s internship?

A: Applications will go live by the second week of term for the following term’s internship. The application deadline will fall shortly after registration opens for the following term.

Q: Is this internship offered remotely during COVID-19 closures?

A: Yes. The SLS internship is offered remotely during any terms that our physical office space is closed. When our office in SMSU reopens, this internship will return to taking place in person.
